The Pontiac Montana has a brief, but interesting history. First released in 1997 as the successor to the Pontiac Trans Sport, the Montana was originally established as an upgrade to the Trans Sport model. Consumers appreciated the Montana more than its parent model, so Pontiac felt it prudent to let the nameplate take over the model permanently. However, early in the process, the Trans Sport/Montana didn’t enjoy much acclaim, as safety ratings were incredibly poor and consumers were more interested in SUVs than minivans. Fortunately for Pontiac, the second design generation helped to resolve these issues, as the aesthetic design of the Montana was altered to appear more SUV-like, and safety ratings were significantly improved.
While the Montana was selling well in Mexico and Canada, consumers in the United States were still showing little interest in the model. And, though it likely contributed to Pontiac’s demise, the Montana was discontinued with the Pontiac brand in 2010. General Motors, who had been operating the automaker, felt that the moniker was performing poorly and was beyond resurrection. Alas, the Pontiac brand became yet another casualty in the global economic downturn, and will remain buried in the annals of American automotive history.
Because safety features were such a large part of the Montana’s history, it’s important to recognize which elements help to keep you safe while on the road. Headlights, tail lights, and turn signal assemblies all play a crucial role in ensuring that other drivers know of your intentions. If one of these components is broken or damaged, you could be putting your passengers, yourself, and other drivers at risk! This is why municipalities often cite damaged lighting assemblies.
