The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a popular sports coupe that was initially released by the Japanese automaker in 1989. Sharing the design with the Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser, the Eclipse eventually deviated from the other models when it entered its 3rd design generation. Incredibly popular with younger drivers given its style and price point, the Eclipse remained a mainstay in the industry for 12 years before eventually being discontinued in 2011. A special edition Eclipse was released in 2012, though only 1 was created and auctioned. There appears to be little plan for resurrecting the Eclipse in the coming years, though it isn’t necessarily out of the realm of possibility.
Several variations on the Eclipse were released throughout its lifetime. From the standard “base” model to the “Spyder”, Mitsubishi offered a variety of features with different designations that included improved suspensions and powerful turbocharged engines. These efforts were a hit with the “mod” community, as they flocked to the model, upgraded it with various aftermarket inclusions.
