NOTE: The first 4 steps of the installation below are often all you need to replace the tail light assembly. However, if the wiring is the problem, which can sometimes be the case, you will need to begin at Step 5.
Step 1: Open the vehicle's tailgate.
Step 2: Loosen and remove the 10mm mounting bolts (2) that are located to the interior of the tail light assembly.
Step 3: You can now pull the tail light from the vehicle.
This may take some maneuvering, as the tail light likely hasn't been removed for some time.
Step 4: Attach the new tail light assembly's wiring harness, and mount it into place by tightening the 10mm mountings bolts (2).
This is the final step if you do not need to replace the interior wiring harness.
Step 5: Loosen and remove the Phillips screws (6) that hold the floor trim plate in place. Remove this panel.
This is the panel that runs the width of the trunk, near the door catch.
Step 6: Loosen and remove the 10mm bolt near the tail light assembly.
This bolt is located on the interior panel, just inside the trunk area.
Step 7: Pull and remove the panel retaining plugs (2) that are located below the 10mm bolt we just removed.
Step 8: You can now pull the panel from the vehicle's frame.
NOTE: You don't need to fully remove the interior trim panel, but instead, just pull it out far enough to expose the mounting/wiring area of the tail light.
Step 9: Disconnect the tail light's wiring harness.
This connection is exposed by pulling the interior trim panel back.
Step 10: You can now pull the tail light assembly and wiring harness from the vehicle.
Step 11: Feed the wiring through the opening in the vehicle frame. Connect the wiring harness.
Step 12: Mount the tail light by tightening the 10mm mounting bolts (2).
Step 13: Reattach the interior trim panels by tightening the 10mm bolt (1), replacing the retaining plugs (2), and tightening the Phillips screws (6) that hold the lower liner panel in place.
