1995-2005 Chevrolet Cavalier, Pontiac Sunfire 2.2L Serpentine Belt Replacement Instructions, Install, Change (1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004)

Tools required:

15mm wrench

8mm wrench

Step 1: Open the vehicle's hood.

Step 2: Using the 8mm wrench, disconnect the vehicle's positive battery cable.

Step 3: Loosen the 15mm belt tensioner bolt (1) to release the tension on the belt.

Turn the tensioner bolt COUNTER CLOCKWISE.

Step 4: Once the tension is released, you can remove the belt. Slowly let the tensioner bolt return to its resting position.

Step 5: Using the routing diagram provided on the UNDERSIDE of the hood, near the radiator, or in the owner's manual, route the NEW serpentine belt around the proper pulleys.

Step 6: Once the belt is in position, tighten the 15mm tensioner bolt (1).

NOTE: The belt should be taut, but not stretched or overly tight!

Step 7: Reconnect the vehicle's positive battery cable.
